The National Weather Service has upgraded the Heat Advisory issued Monday to an Excessive Heat Warning for the WAKO listening area. The warning remains in effect until Wednesday at 8 p.m. CDT.  Actual temperatures in the 95 to 100 degree range will combine with high humidity levels to create dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 115 degrees. Once again, this combination will significantly increase the risk of heat related illness, especially for those who must work outside or participate in outdoor activities. The Lawrence County Emergency Management Agency has informed WAKO that both the Lawrenceville Civic Center and the Bridgeport City Hall are now being utilized as cooling centers for local residents who are without fans or air conditioning. Both those locations will be open from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. CDT through Friday.
