According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 32 Illinois counties are now rated at the High Level for COVID-19 spread. Those include Chicago, Cook County and surrounding counties in northeastern Illinois as well as counties around the cities of Bloomington, Peoria, and Springfield. 5 counties in far southern Illinois-Franklin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac and Williamson are also at the High Level. An additional 32 counties are now rated at the Medium Level for COVID-19 spread. Included are both Lawrence and Crawford counties in southeastern Illinois. According to the latest Lawrence County Health Department statistics, between June 6 and 10th, there have been 26 individual cases of the disease. State health officials say that the elderly and those who are immunocompromised in Medium Level areas are advised to wear a mask in indoor public places and be up to date in regard to their vaccinations.
