STORM SYSTEM SPAWNS TORNADO

A strong storm system rolled through the WAKO listening area Thursday evening and night spawning severe thunderstorms with high winds and heavy rain and an apparent tornado in neighboring Wabash County. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports receiving reports of the tornado striking areas of the city of Mt Carmel and the town of Keensburg in southern Wabash County just after 9:30 p.m. and then moving northeast into areas of southern Lawrence County near St Francisville before crossing the Wabash River into southern Knox County Indiana near the town of Decker. Tornado warning sirens sounded in Lawrence County between 9:50 and 10 p.m. with movement of the storm. There were wind gusts reported of 65 m.p.h. and up which caused widespread downed trees and power lines resulting in power outages across the region depending on your location. The NWS say teams will out assessing damages and determining the severity of the tornado.
