Bad news regarding a much anticipated major runway improvement project at the Mid American Air Center northeast of Lawrenceville. Airport manager Kurt Schwartz reported Tuesday to the Bi-State Authority which governs the airport that local firm Ambraw Asphalt has withdrawn it’s bid for the Runway 18/36 overlay project. Schwartz says the bid was withdrawn by the company after the 90 day window for accepting or rejecting the proposal elapsed. The main reason for the move according to Schwartz was increasing costs of petroleum products which is expected to add close to $575,000 to the projected costs. It is anticipated that the project will be rebid in the future and get back on track.
