According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 14 counties in Illinois are now rated at the Medium Community Level for the spread of coronavirus. 9 counties are located in northeastern Illinois-Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Will and Winnebago and 5 in central Illinois-Champaign, Sangamon, Douglas, Logan and McLean. At the Medium level, people who are elderly or immunocompromised are advised to wear masks in indoor public places. In addition they are asked to get up to date on their vaccinations and booster shots.  According to the latest information from the Lawrence County Health Department, between May 2nd and 6th, there were only 4 individual cases of COVID locally. Lawrence County and the surrounding area remains in a Low Community Level for spread of the disease. Currently, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is reporting a total of 3,169,315 cases of the disease across the state with 33,660 deaths since the pandemic began.
