The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has issued new updated public recommendations this week regarding wild birds and the strain of Avian Influenza currently impacting some wild and domestic bird species. It is being recommended that those who have bird feeders and bird baths on their properties cease their use through the date of Tuesday May 31st or until infections in the Midwest decline. Those who have bird feeders and bird baths are also urged to clean and rinse them with a diluted bleach solution, remove any seed at the base of the feeders to discourage large gatherings of birds or other wildlife and avoid feeding wild birds in close proximity to domestic flocks.
