Norma J. Kirkwood Wells

Norma J. Wells, age 91, of Columbia, Missouri entered into eternal rest on April 12, 2022.

Mrs. Wells was born on August 14, 1930, in Vincennes, Indiana, to Mae and Allan Kirkwood. She married Forrest Capps, Jr., in August 1952. She later married Don Wells, her high school sweetheart in 1993. He proceeded her in death on September 14, 2021.

Mrs. Wells is a 1947 graduate from Lawrenceville Township High School, attended Mac Murray College and later graduated from Washington University, St. Louis, MO, with a B.S. in nursing in 1952.

She devoted many years to her nursing career, which she aspired to as a young child. After retirement she continued to be a caretaker and devoted many hours as a hospice volunteer.  She was a member of Broadway Christian Church.  Her family and faith were her true love, passion, and joy. She was an avid Bridge player, and enjoyed sports, music, and dancing.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters: Diane (Capps)Basinger of Ashland, MO; Stewart Capps of Melbourne Beach, FL; Thomas Wells of St. Petersburg, FL; James Wells of Philadelphia, PA; and Mary Teter of Elizabeth, CO. She was the beloved “Mimi” to Shawn Basinger, Joshua Basinger, and Chad Capps, and was also blessed with 10 step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her brother Edward Kirkwood, and two sons, Forrest Allan Capps and Stephen Capps.

Graveside services will be held at Lawrenceville City Cemetery on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 12:00 pm (CST). Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham-Young Funeral Home.
