The Illinois Commerce Commission has now approved it’s annual 5 year Crossing Safety Improvement Program to start implementing highway-rail safety capital projects at sites across the state including Lawrence County. The ICC will spend around $386 million dollars to assist local communities and railroad companies pay for needed improvements at nearly 879 crossing locations. Two projects approved for funding involve the closing of the CSX public rail crossing at CR 750 East near Bridgeport in Fiscal Year 2022 at a cost of $170,000 and in Fiscal Year 2024, grade separation reconstruction of the CSX rail crossing on CR 700 East also near Bridgeport. That project is expected to cost an estimated $2.36 million dollars to complete.
