INDIANA S.A.V.E. PROGRAM

school-bus-stop

The Vincennes Police Department and the Knox County Indiana Sheriffs Department will both be out in full force to ensure that students are safe when traveling to and from school. Over the next few weeks, officers from both departments will be positioned along bus routes and in school zones in Knox County on alert for bus stop-arm violations, speeding and other forms of reckless driving. The patrols are part of the Indiana Stop Arm Violation Enforcement (S.A.V.E.) Program. Every time drivers see a school bus, they should slow down and be ready to stop and watch for children. When the overhead lights flash red and the stop arm extends, drivers are required to stop. Disregarding a school bus stop arm is a Class A Indiana infraction. Violators could be fined up to $10,000, have their drivers license suspended for up to 90 days (for a first offense) and up to 1 year (for the second).
