The Knox County Indiana Council met Tuesday and voted 6-1 to implement a 1/2 of a percent Local Income Tax (LIT). The tax would be used to help subsidize county ambulance service in the future and monies collected would also go to various municipalities, townships and volunteer fire departments for public safety uses. The tax passed after a public hearing was held with no opposition. The LIT ordinance will now go to other governmental and muncipal boards such as the Vincennes City Council. The new tax can only take effect if approved by entities representing at least 50% of the Knox County population.
