40 year old Ray Tate Jr. of Hopkinsville Kentucky formerly of Lawrence County was formally arraigned Wednesday for the shooting death of Wayne County Sheriffs Deputy Sean Riley. He appearing in person in Wayne County Circuit Court and was advised of all the charges filed against him in that county. He was charged with 36 counts of First Degree Murder, a single count of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Riley was alledgedly killed by Tate after answering a motorist assist call on Interstate 64 early on December 29th 2021. Tate plead not guilty to all the charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday March 15th. After the arraignment, Tate was returned to the Jefferson County Illinois Detention Center where he remains incarcerated on $5 million bond.
