The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 5,825 new cases of coronavirus across the state Tuesday with 87 additional deaths. There were only 16 positive cases Tuesday in Lawrence County and only 20 positive cases in Knox County Indiana. Overall since the pandemic began, there have been a total of 2,977,341 cases of the disease with 31,570 deaths across Illinois. A total of 20,747,971 vaccinations have been administered at sites across Illinois since the vaccine rollout began with now over 4 million booster doses given. The latest IDPH numbers show that just over 37% of the total population of Lawrence County has been totally vaccinated. Illinois Governor J.B. Prtizger is expected to lay out a plan Wednesday to phase out his mask mandate for Illinois residents in most indoor settings. While he is expected to wind down the mandate for the public at large, he is not expected to give up legal battles to keep masks on in the states schools, which present a different challenge in the pandemic, according to Pritzger.
