WINTER STORM WARNING CONTINUES

The National Weather Service says the current Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the WAKO listening area until midnight CT Thursday. The main precipitation Thursday is heavy snow accumulations forecast between 3 to 7 inches depending on location. Snowfall of that magnitude will lead to blowing and drifting later from winds gusting as high as 35 m.p.h. Slippery road conditions already exist from sleet and freezing rain on routes covered by snow. Travel is extremely difficult especially on rural roads. Officials say that if you do not have to travel, stay home. If you must travel, take extra time, carry an emergency kit and let your destination be known. The weather system caused numerous cancellations and closings across the area including schools in Lawrence and Knox Counties Thursday.
