AREA UNEMPLOYMENT IMPROVES

Unemployment levels dropped from November to December for most counties in southeastern Illinois. That according to the latest individual county figures released this week by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES). Lawrence County had a jobless rate in November of 4.9% which fell to 4.6% in December. Richland County was at 3.2% in November down to 3% in December. Wabash County was at 3.3% in November down to 3.1% in December. Edwards County was at 3.6% in November down to 3.4% in December. Neighboring Crawford County did see an increase in joblessness-3.8% in November up to 3.9% in December. The IDES Say that total nonfarm employment in December increased over 650 jobs in the region as compared to last year.
