The Illinois Department of Public Health has reported 28,110 new cases of coronavirus across the state Tuesday with 92 additional deaths. The Lawrence County Health Department indicated 78 positive cases Tuesday in the county while there were 53 new cases reported Tuesday in Knox County Indiana. Overall since the pandemic began, there have now been a total of 2,488,380 cases of the disease with 28,660 deaths statewide here in Illinois. There have been a total of 19,722,607 vaccinations administered at various sites across Illinois since the vaccine rollout began with over 3.4 million booster doses. The IDPH says that 37.42% of the total Lawrence County population is fully vaccinated with 41.5% having had at least 1 dose of the vaccine. 2,081 booster doses have been received in the county. The Illinois Department of Corrections announced this week that it is temporarily pausing intakes from county jails as it responds to continuing COVID-19 outbreaks at it’s correctional facilities across the state. County sheriffs were notified Tuesday of the decision. IDOC will utilize space normally reserved for new admissions to safely quarantine incarcerated individuals who have been exposed to or test positive for COVID-19.
