The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 24,423 new cases of coronavirus across the state Tuesday with 79 new deaths. The Lawrence County Health Department reported 26 cases Tuesday and the Knox County Indiana Health Department reported 17 cases with 1 death Tuesday. Overall since the pandemic began in Illinois, there have been 2,263,166 cases of the disease with 28,077 deaths. A total of 19,357,296 vaccinations have been administered at sites across Illinois since the vaccine rollout began. Over 3.2 million booster doses have now been given. The IDPH reports that 37.34% of the Lawrence County population has been fully vaccinated with just over 41% recieving at least 1 dose. There have been 1,977 booster doses in the county. The IDPH did announce that they are adopting the CDC recommendation to shorten the interval from 6 months down to 5 months for people who have recieved the Pfizer-BioTech COVID-19 vaccine to get a booster dose. They also are recommending that moderately or severely immunocompromised children ages 5 to 11 recieve a third dose of vaccine 28 days after their first dose.
