It was a sad and somber day in Wayne County Illinois Tuesday as one of the county’s law enforcement brethren was laid to rest. 38 year old Wayne County Sheriffs Deputy Sean Riley was killed in the line of duty on Wednesday December 29th. He was a three year veteran of the department and served as a corrections officer and patrol deputy. Funeral services for Riley were held Tuesday morning at Fairfield Community High School Gymnasium followed by a law enforcement procession to and burial at the Cisne Cemetery. The man accused in the death of Riley, Ray Tate of Hopkinsville Kentucky and a former Lawrence County resident has been formally charged with First Degree Murder in the case.
