Lawrence County Sheriff Russell Adams is stepping down early in 2022. That after action taken by the Lawrence County Board after executive session at their regular monthly session Wednesday. Adams will offically retire on January 14th after multiple terms as sheriff and over 30 years in law enforcement in Lawrence County. He had announced earlier he would not seek re-election in 2022. Longtime Chief Deputy Trent Masterson has been appointed to take over as acting sheriff on January 15th until the 2022 election upon recommendation from Adams.The county board did accept Adams letter of retirement and approved the appointment of Masterson.
