Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzger Thursday announced that $94 million in state funding is being released through the 2021 Rebuild Illinois Capital Improvement Program to improve public airports throughout the state. That includes both airports located in Lawrence County. The Mid-American Air Center located northeast of Lawrenceville will get grant money for two projects. $450,000 will be used to construct Aircraft T-hanger Access Taxiways and $342,000 will be used to replace Omni-Directional Approach Lights (ODALs) on Runway 27. The Mt Carmel Municipal Airport located in southern Lawrence County will get $144,000 to replace Runway End Identifier Lights (REILs) on Runway 4/22 and also $49,500 for acquiring airport mowing equipment. Both airports will also contribute local funding to those projects.
