UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS CHANGE

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says that there will be a major change for Lawrence County and other area residents who receive state unemployment benefits. Starting on Monday December 27th, those benefits will no longer be paid out via a debit card. The change is occuring after the state vendor decided to discontinue providing debit cards for benefit purposes. The change will not affect how much claimants receive but will alter how they get the money. Those currently using debit cards can visit the ides.illinois.gov/payment and get more information. Direct deposit is being offered to those who wish to switch to that payment option. Otherwise paper checks will be issued.
