CHARGES FILED IN EDWARDS COUNTY DEATH

The Edwards County States Attorneys Office has announced formal charges have now been filed in the death of a Grayville man. 56 year Steven Schmittler of Grayville was taken into custody on three counts of First Degree Murder, single counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. The charges stem from the investigation into the fatal shooting of 41 year old Tommy Burns . His body was found early last Sunday at a Grayville residence. Schmittler is being held on $1.5 million bond in the White County Jail in Carmi and is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Tuesday, December 14th.
