COUNTERFEIT MONEY IN AREA

With the holiday shopping season upon us, local and area law enforcement authorities are urging Lawrence County and other citizens to be on the lookout for counterfeit money being passed in locations across southeastern Illinois. There have been reports of the discovery of bogus $20 and $100 bills being circulated. All of the bad bills have differing serial numbers, but some are extremely noticable because of the color, texture and centering of images on the fake money. All business owners and others who handle frequent and large amounts of money daily are being asked to be vigilant and use counterfeit bill detection methods. Also any fraudulent money discovered should be immediately reported and turned over to local and state law enforcement.
