The Illinois Department of Public Health reports there have been 2,253 new cases of coronavirus reported across the state Tuesday with 25 deaths. That brings the total number of cases of the disease to 1,704,031 with 25,858 deaths in the state since the pandemic began. A total of 15,766,108 vaccinations have been administered in the state since the vaccine rollout began with 40,583 doses given Monday at various vaccination sites. The IDPH now says that 36.38% of the total Lawrence County population have now been fully vaccinated. The IDPH also announced Wednesday that it is adopting the CDC recommendations for children in the state ages 5 through 11 years to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine for children will be a smaller dose-1/3rd the size of a regular dose for those 12 and older. Vaccinations for those 5 years and older will be available soon at local health departments, pharmacies, pediatrician offices, federally qualified health centers and other providers.
