The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,131 new cases of coronavirus across the state Tuesday with 27 additional deaths. Overall since the pandemic began, there have been 1,688,261 cases of the disease with 25,682 deaths statewide. A total of 15,343,270 vaccines have now been administered in Illinois since the vaccine rollout began. Over 32,000 people received shots at sites across the state on Monday. The IDPH reports that as of now, over 36% of the total population of Lawrence County has now been fully vaccinated. The state of Illinois this week announced that it is ready for plans to vaccinate children ages 5 to 11 against COVID-19 as soon as federal approvals are given. Officials say that the pediatric vaccination rollout could happen as early as next week.
