The Illinois Eastern Community College Board this week authorized the setting of the district tax levy hearing. It will be Tuesday November 16th at 6:15 p.m. at Olney Central College. The tax levy resolution was approved this week at Lincoln Trail College in Robinson and the proposed levy will be considered for adoption on that November date. A public hearing will be also be held. Also during the session, the IECC Board approved a settlement agreement with Vistra Energy, the owners of the coal-fired power plant at Newton after they announced plans to close the facility in 2025. Fourteen affiliation agreements were also approved between the district and area health care providers including Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. Also approved were revisions in current district policies on Sex Offender Registration, Student Conduct, Tobacco/Smoke Free Campuses and Academic Standing. In a related note, Lincoln Trail College was selected as the 6th best online community college in the nation by the website Online Schools Guide. The rating was based on such factors as programs offered, cost, student reviews and salary.
