The Vincennes Police Department has released a statement mourning the loss of the Department K-9 Unit-Gary this week. The dog and his K-9 handler Sgt. Mike Caswell had reported for duty to assist with the serving of a search warrant Wednesday when the animal suffered an apparent seizure and became unresponsive. He was rushed to the Vincennes Veterinary Clinic and was ready to be transported to another animal medical facility at Purdue University when he suffered another episode. It was then determined that Gary would not survive the trip and the painful decision was made to put the dog down to end his suffering.
