Law enforcement authorities are again warning local Lawrence County residents to be aware of high pressure phone scams regarding unpaid bills for utility services such as phone, water, electricity, etc. There have been reports of people including the elderly that have been targeted with such calls that demand immediate payments of those bills or immediate disconnection. These calls are scams and should be avoided or ignored with no pertinent personal information revealed. Utility companies never call a residence personally and do most business via mail notification. Anyone receiving this type of call is urged to contact law enforcement or state business officials with the Attorney Generals Office.
