Law enforcement authorities and the Illinois Department of Transportation are urging Lawrence County and other area motorists to be careful and on the alert for deer on the roads. Deer mating season is here and typically runs from October through December. Last year across Illinois, there were nearly 14,000 deer-vehicle collisions resulting in 611 personal injuries and 10 deaths. The Illinois counties with the most deer related crashes in 2020 were Cook, Madison, Will, Sangamon and Peoria. There were 135 deer-vehicle collisions in Lawrence County in 2020 with no deaths and 3 people injured. 132 of those included vehicle damages.
