The City of Vincennes has a new firefighter. Alex Smith was formally sworn into the department Monday by Mayor Joe Yochum at the Board of Works and Safety meeting. Smith is a 2013 graduate of Vincennes Lincoln High School and also a graduate of the Vincennes University law and fire enforcement program and served with the Vincennes Township Fire Department for the last 7 years. He begins his new duties immediately. Police Chief Jon Hillenbrand reported to the board that there are 4 openings remaining in his department with 2 spots expected to be filled by early to mid-October. The board also moved to accept a single bid of $3200 for a surplus vehicle.
