The Illinois State Senate Wednesday passed a massive clean energy bill in Springfield. The controversial legislation would push to have over 1 million electric cars on Illinois roadways by the year 2030. it also sets dates for private and municipally owned coal fired power plants to close. That issue was one of the main sticking points during talks on crafting the bill. it also gives subsidies to the company Exelon to keep it’s two plant locations at Dresden and Byron open. Among those opposing the bill was 55th District State Senator Darren Bailey who was critical of the company calling it corrupt in it’s dealings with the state. The measure now heads to the House where it is expected to undergo additional negotiated changes before becoming a finished product. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzger has already said that he would veto the bill in it’s present form.
