The number of jobs increased and the unemployment rate decreased from July of 2020 to July of this year for southeastern Illinois. That according to figures released for the month by the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Lawrence County was at 5.7% unemployment in 2021 well below the 9.8% rate in 2020 for the month. All other surrounding counties also saw jobless rates decrease as well.
