The Red Hill Unit 10 Board of Education met in special session Friday morning at the district office in Bridgeport and after an over 1 hour executive session emerged to adopt two resolutions. The first authorizes legal action against the Illinois State Board of Education with attorney Thomas DeVore retained to represent the district in the lawsuit. The second modifies the district reopening plan. Unit 10 will now follow the state mask mandate starting on Monday August 30 but under protest. Superintendent Jakie Walker told WAKO News that that means the district still disagrees with the mandate policy, but is following it in order to continue allow face-to-face instruction and keep students in open schools. Unit 10 officials said that as of last Friday some 200 students were out of school either due to COVID-19 itself or close contact quarantining.
