School returned in Lawrence County Wednesday as both Units 10 and 20 welcomed back students after the summer break. Local and area law enforcement authorities along with school officials urge safety in these first days of the new school term. Drivers in school zones should slow down and be extra vigilant for young children walking and biking to and from school. Drivers should also be aware of school buses and the frequent stops they make to pick up and let off kids and follow safety laws pertaining to those buses. Research by the National Safety Council found that most of the children who are injured in school-related incidents range from 4 to 6 years in age and are walking at the time they are hurt.
