109th District Republican State Representative Adam Niemerg says that his first legislative bill has been signed into law by Governor J.B. Pritzker. The new measure allows for people 35 years of age and older who have served a municipality as a regularly enrolled volunteer, paid-on-call, or part-time firefighter to now be eligible to take an examination to become a full-time firefighter. The law amends the Illinois Municipal Code and the Fire Protection District Act. Neimerg said that the value and expertise of part-time and volunteer firefighters needs to be recognized and not limited to helping in a community because of age.
