The Lawrenceville City Council met in regular monthly session Thursday evening at City Hall. They approved an amended ordinance call for no parking on Porter Avenue beginning on Wednesday, September 1st. The reason for the change is school and traffic safety along the much-used throughfare, according to Mayor David Courtney. A citizen request was made to look at the possible use of golf carts in the city and was sent to committee for further study and review. Mayor Courtney announced that the city street paving bids had been received and opened with Ambraw Asphalt being the low bidder for the city work. The council also voted to award $3000 to the Lawrence County United Fund for it’s work in the community after hearing from representatives of the local organizations who are funded by the organization. The United Fund is a non-profit organization with all of it’s money staying in Lawrence County. Donations can be made to: Lawrence County United Fund, P.O. Box 23, Lawrenceville Il 62439.
