John Henry Garvey, age 88 of Lawrenceville, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born in Denison Township on March 23, 1933 to Raymond and Agnes (Snider) Garvey.

On April 7, 1956, John married Wilma Raye McDonald. After 59 years together building a beautiful life, she preceded him in death on June 22, 2015.

John went to St. Francisville High School then went on to join the United States Army during the Korean War. He had worked in the oil fields as a young man, then Chrysler in Evansville, and eventually retired from Hoover International in Vincennes, IN. John enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved his family, enjoyed camping on his own and with Jerry and the Boy Scouts, and tinkered around his place as a handyman.

Surviving family includes: three children- Jerry Garvey and wife Rita, Phyllis Wells and husband Ed, and Brenda Grove all of Lawrenceville: two sisters- Norma Dixon of Vincennes, IN and Emma Jane Brown of The Villages, FL: four grandchildren- Jonathan Garvey, Jason Garvey, Jamie Wells, and Lori Haynes: six great-grandchildren- Jackson, Grant, Madison, and Lily Garvey, and Ella and Bria Waggoner: and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held for John Henry Garvey at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow mass in Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
