IHSA MASK POLICY

After Governor J.B Prtizker announced the imposition of a mask mandate for Illinois K-12 public schools this week, the Illinois High School Association issued a statement Thursday saying that face masks must be worn for all indoor athletic events regardless of an individual’s vaccination status. This goes for student-athletes, coaches, officials, game personnel and fans. The mask policy also extends to open gyms, general conditioning and weightlifting held indoors. The good news is that there are no restrictions on scheduling or spectator limitations and there have been no changes to the IHSA sports calender for the coming school term. There are no face masks required for any outdoor high school sporting events so far. The Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) and the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association (SIJHSAA) are expected to release statements regarding junior high sports in the near future.
