The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the entire WAKO listening area through 8 p.m. Thursday. The heat index should rise above 100 degrees late in the morning and remain in triple digits up to 110 degrees during the afternoon and early evening. Prolonged outdoor exposure may cause heat related illness for people and pets. Those who have to be outside should avoid overexertion, drink plenty of fluids especially water, take frequent breaks in a cool air conditioned area, avoid lengthy periods in the direct sun and wear light colored loose fitting clothing. Older relatives and neighbors should be checked on and children and pets should never be left alone in vehicles under any circumstances. Know the signs of heat illness and call for medical attention for anyone overcome by heat.
