The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert for southeastern Illinois and southwestern Indiana. The combination of smoke from the wildfires in the western United States and hot stagnant air hanging over the Midwest has created generally poor air quality over the WAKO listening region through Thursday evening into Friday. Those who have respiratory conditions or problems breathing should take steps to mitigate the effects when outdoors.
