CAPTURED FUGITIVE CHARGED IN SHOOTING

The wanted fugitive who was captured Monday evening in southern Lawrence County has now been charged in a White County shooting. The Illinois State Police Zone 8 Division of Criminal Investigation now say that 27 year old Ashton Harper of Mt Vernon Illinois is being held in connection with the incident late Monday afternoon in Grayville. Harper fled the scene and was spotted later in Mt Carmel in Wabash County in a 2012 Subaru. He was pursued by Mt Carmel Police and the Wabash County Sheriffs Department into rural northern Wabash County and later ditched the vehicle and fled on foot. A manhunt ensued in the area and Harper was apprehended by the ISP just into southern Lawrence County around 9 p.m. The Lawrence County Sheriffs Department was among the law enforcement agencies assisting in the manhunt.  He was originally wanted on a Wayne County warrant for a stolen vehicle and now faces several additional charges in connection with his capture. The ISP Zone 8 says that the case remains open and under investigation with no other details being released.
