The Illinois Department of Public Health reported only 408 new cases of coronavirus and only 23 deaths across the state Wednesday. There were no new case reports in Lawrence County with 1 new case reported in Knox County Indiana Wednesday. Overall since the pandemic began, there have been 1,386,262 cases of the disease across Illinois with 22,997 deaths. Over 11.7 million vaccines have now been administered in the state since the vaccine rollout began with over 50,000 people getting shots Wednesday. A reminder that the Lawrence County Health Department is offering COVID-19 vaccination clinics Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at their main office located on US 50 west of Lawrenceville near the Lawrence County Country Club. The IDPH Wednesday announced that in an effort to ensure schools safely resume in-person learning in the fall, it is expanding access to no cost and low cost COVID-19 testing to elementary schools. Student testing will be free in districts classified as low income and with high infection rates. Just last month, the IDPH expanded COVID-19 rapid testing to middle and high schools.
