One major issue that did not get taken care of in the recent spring legislative session in Springfield by state lawmakers was fixing the Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) card backlog. Two versions of legislation are now being considered to modernize the system and shorten the wait time for a new card. However there are some who say the best avenue is to do away with the entire FOID process. One of those is 55th District Republican State Senator Darren Bailey. He is advocating the scrapping of the FOID applications and allowing honest Illinois citizens the right to defend themselves and their families. It is hoped that compromise legislation addressing the matter can be agreed upon in the future.
