Indiana State Police report that a Vincennes man was arrested early Friday after attempting to escape after a traffic stop. Around 2:15 am EST, a trooper was patrolling on 6th Street near Cullop in Vincennes and pulled over a 2008 Dodge truck being driven by 25 year old Matthew Patton for a defective headlight. Patton displayed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. That led to a search of his truck and the discovery of an amphetamine pill. Patton was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for a blood test and after he was uncuffed there, he fled and was caught and handcuffed again after a brief struggle. Patton was then taken to the Knox County Jail and was being held pending bond preliminarily charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (Drugs), Possession of a Schedule 2 Controlled Substance, Attempted Escape and Resisting Law Enforcement.
