The Lawrence County Board met in a special session Wednesday afternoon at the Lawrence County Courthouse regarding pending state legislation in Springfield governing rules for renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. After hearing from representatives of the Lawrence County Farm Bureau and after discussion amongst themselves, the board moved unanimously to send a letter to the state legislature and governor’s office in opposition to any legislation that would take away local control regarding zoning, property rights and allow imminent domain by private companies wishing to set up such businesses. The letter is similar to others being created by counties across the state also concerned with the issue.
