The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,633 new cases of coronavirus across the state Wednesday with 28 additional deaths. No new cases reported in Lawrence County with the overall cases total remaining at 2,480. 15 cases remain active with 1 hospitalization and no new deaths. There were 3 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Knox County Indiana Wednesday. That brings the county total there to 3,733 with no new deaths. Overall since the pandemic began, there have been 1,370,342 cases of the disease across Illinois with 22,494 deaths. Over 10.5 million vaccinations have now occured across the state with over 117,000 people getting shots Wednesday at sites around the state. LCHD Administrator Amy Marley talked with WAKO News about the local fight against COVID-19. She indicated that her department is awaiting additional information regarding the recent masking recommendations from the state.  Those who have been vaccinated are not now required to wear a mask, but in some settings, a mask is required and some places may chose to continue the masking practice. She also said the vaccination process in Lawrence County is going slowly with about 23% of the total county population now fully vaccinated and that people who wish to be vaccinated can contact the LCHD to get that done.
