The Lawrence Public Library Board met in regular session Tuesday at the facility in downtown Lawrenceville. There was the formal seating of the trustees elected in the April 6th election. Taking the oath of office were newcomer Jamie Cox who replaces Mike Neal and incumbents Julie Mieure, Deanna Ratts-Boyd and Janet Faro. The board also reorganized with the election of officers. John White was picked as the new president replacing  Neal in that position. Ratts-Boyd was voted as vice-president, Joan Brian as treasurer and Cyndi Hayes-Morris as secretary.  Head Librarian and Director Dianne Brumley reported to the board about registration being underway for the popular summer reading program. Parents and guardians can register their child in person at the library during regular business hours or online at the library website. After much discussion, it was determined that despite the CDC recommendations that already vaccinated citizens do not have to wear masks in many settings, patrons of the library are asked to continue wearing masks when visiting the facility. Staff safety was the main reason behind continuing the practice. The library will not require the use of masks once the state of Illinois fully reopens.
