The downtown square in the city of Robinson in neighboring Crawford County was evacuated Monday morning after a suspicious package was found near the courthouse. Authorities say the discovery was made by Crawford County Sheriffs Department deputies as the building was being opened for public business. The nearby area was cleared as a precautionary measure and the Illinois Secretary of State Hazardous Device Unit was called in to handle the package. It was found to be empty and not an explosive device and removed from the premises. Authorities say they are continuing to investigate the discovery with no suspects as of yet.
