The IDPH has announced that vaccination locations throughout Illinois are preparing to administer the Pfizer vaccine to youths ages 12 through 15. This after the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted to recommend its use following clinical trials showing the Pfizer vaccine is 100% effective against COVID-19 and emergency use approval for the age group by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Individuals should check with their local health department or healthcare provider about whether a parent or guardian must be present for a individual under the age of 18 to get the vaccine or whether some other form of written consent is required. Also announced by the IDPH Wednesday a saliva test for COVID-19 to be made available for use in middle and high schools across the state that provides quick results. Testing will be free for districts with low income students while others will get a discounted rate of $10 per test.
