The Illinois Department of Public Health Thursday reported 1,778 new cases of coronavirus across the state with 40 new deaths. There were no new cases reported Thursday by the Lawrence County Health Department. The case total remains at 2,471 with 6 active. 1 person remains hospitalized and there have been no new deaths. There were 7 new cases reported Thursday in Knox County Indiana increasing the positive cases to 3,718 with no new deaths. Overall since the pandemic began, there have now been 1,348,176 cases of the disease across Illinois with a total of 22,136 deaths. Over 9.6 million vaccines have been administered across the state since the vaccine rollout began. Close to 100,000 shots were given out Thursday according to the IDPH. Governor J.B. Pritzger announced Thursday that Illinois will move into the “bridge” phase of COVID-19 mitigations starting on Friday May 14th and the state could fully reopen as soon as Friday June 11th. That is because cases continue to decline and hospitalization rates have steadied.
