55th District Republican State Senator Darren Bailey has filed legislation in Springfield to eliminate the Illinois Firearm Owner Identification (F.O.I.D.) program. Bailey says that the program has outlived it’s usefullness and has turned into a major roadblock for law-abiding gun owners across his district and the state. He went on to cite long wait times for application approvals and the background checks already in place for firearm purchases making the FOID process duplicative and unneccessary. His bill would repeal the FOID Act and eliminate FOID requirements in other parts of state law. The bill is currently in the Senate Executive Committee’s Firearms Subcommittee.
